The deterioration of your gum tissues due to periodontal disease can cause your teeth to become loose. Injury, orthodontic treatment, or pressure caused by tooth misalignment can also contribute to loose teeth. Our dentist provides periodontal splinting in Escondido, California, to stabilize your teeth and help you enjoy a healthier bite. We invite you to call us at 760-745-5416 to make your appointment with Dr. Mark B. Martin and learn more about the benefits of periodontal splinting.

Periodontal splints often become necessary when good oral hygiene and dental procedures fail to deal with the infection effectively and the teeth become destabilized. A periodontal splint consists of a stabilizing wire or reinforced “ribbon.” This wire is bonded across the outside of several teeth, linking them together to create a single unit. By linking the teeth together, the overall strength of the teeth is increased and the teeth are stabilized. This also reduces the amount of stress placed on your remaining gum tissue, allowing you to enjoy your natural teeth a little longer.

Our dentist will perform this treatment by milling slots into the affected teeth, into which he will insert the stabilizing wire. The wire is then bonded to the teeth, usually with a composite resin filling material.
